✔️ Dosage & Administration

Take URIFAST 100mg Capsule exactly as directed by your physician. Swallow whole with water—do not chew or crush. It should always be taken with food or milk to enhance absorption and reduce gastrointestinal upset. The dosage will be determined by your healthcare provider based on age, weight, and the severity of the infection.

✔️ Overdose

Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, and stomach irritation. In such cases, seek emergency medical attention immediately.

Common Side Effects

• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Diarrhea
• Loss of appetite

Uncommon to Rare Effects:

• Acute or chronic lung reactions (e.g., cough, fever, shortness of breath)
• Liver dysfunction or failure (e.g., jaundice, abdominal pain)
• Nervous system effects (e.g., numbness, confusion, mood changes, visual disturbances)
• Blood disorders (e.g., anemia, low white or red cell count)
• Severe allergic reactions (e.g., facial swelling, rash, difficulty breathing)
• Blue/purple skin discoloration (cyanosis)
• Autoimmune liver disease (autoimmune hepatitis)
• Cutaneous vasculitis (inflammation of blood vessels with fever, skin lesions, abdominal symptoms)

Managing Side Effects

• Nausea/Vomiting: Take with meals; avoid spicy or oily food.
• Loss of Appetite: Eat smaller, more frequent meals; choose high-protein snacks.
• Diarrhea: Stay hydrated; consult a doctor before taking any antidiarrheal medicines.

✔️ Inform your doctor if you are taking:

• Antacids containing magnesium trisilicate (may reduce drug absorption)
• Probenecid or sulfinpyrazone (used for gout; may increase nitrofurantoin toxicity)
• Carbonic anhydrase inhibitors (e.g., acetazolamide; may alter urine pH)
• Drugs slowing stomach emptying (e.g., atropine, hyoscine)
• Fluoroquinolone antibiotics (e.g., ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin)
• Oral contraceptives (may reduce efficacy)
• Typhoid vaccine (reduced effectiveness if given concurrently)
• Urinary alkalinizers (e.g., potassium citrate; can reduce drug efficacy)

✔️ Do not use URIFAST 100mg Capsule if you:

• Are allergic to nitrofurantoin
• Have a known deficiency of G6PD enzyme
• Suffer from a condition called porphyria
• Have significantly impaired kidney function

✔️ Use in Special Populations

• Pregnancy: Not recommended during labor and delivery due to the potential risk to the newborn. Use only if clearly needed during pregnancy under medical advice.
• Breastfeeding: Use cautiously, especially if the infant has a known or suspected enzyme deficiency (e.g., G6PD). Nitrofurantoin may be passed into breast milk.
• Infants: Not recommended for infants under 3 months of age.
• Elderly: Use with caution in geriatric patients.

✔️ Precautions and Warnings

• Lung and Liver Monitoring: Regular check-ups may be needed to monitor lung and liver function during prolonged use.
• False Urine Glucose Tests: Nitrofurantoin may produce false-positive results in urine glucose tests.

✔️ Use With Caution In:

• Patients with liver or lung disorders
• Individuals with anemia, diabetes, electrolyte imbalances, or vitamin B deficiencies
• Patients with severe kidney impairment
